We're off to Nicaragua!
Well, the time has finally come. I blinked and my kids are almost grown. I was sitting with my 'baby' Alexandra recently, as she was giving me a play by play of how much 10 year olds have changed since she was a 10 year old (she is 12), and I realized that we have reached that all important time in our lives when we need, no must begin to see outside ourselves. How do I instill in my kids that there is a whole big world out there that needs what God has so graciously given each of us. Someone told us that we had a purpose, that there was more to life than Spongebob, Twinkies and cute purses. [and I enjoy all three things :)] It is now our time to share that gracious gift with others. Like many parents, I want my children to see the importance of living a life of humility, kindness and acceptance.
Well, my children have reached that age and I am initiating their next step in life with a trip to Nicaragua. I want this to be as life-changing for my children as it is for those they will connect with. I want this to be for them what Argentina was for me when I was a teenager. I want them to see that the world has different cultures but we are all connected. That God has created them on and with a purpose to make a difference, if even in just one life.
I don't know who will go, if it will be the whole family or just two of us and either is exciting to us. If you can help make any of this possible by giving, thank you; if you can pray, thank you, and if you can send us love, thank you. In the end, I want them to see that life is big and fun and filled with so many opportunities to make this world a better place! Let the journey begin...
